The Historic Strater Hotel Room Dedication Project
Celebrating 125 Years
We need your help! The Strater Hotel has been a part of the Durango Community since 1887 and is one of the oldest on-going businesses in the four corners area. It has been owned by the Barker family since 1926. Current owners, Rod and Laurie Barker wish to share a little part of the hotel with you. We are embarking on a community project to dedicate and name each of the 93 rooms in the hotel to individuals, families, and institutions who have been important to the founding and development of Durango. There will also be a number of rooms named after famous hotel guests such as author Louis L’Amour and archaeologist Gustaf Nordenskiöld, and western humorist Will Rogers.
We are looking for local individuals and families that have been significant to the Founding and development of Durango, or the San Juan Basin who are multi generational and have had a significant ongoing impact on the Durango community or the San Juan Basin area. Each room dedication will include a plaque, photo, and story to be displayed in the room. The stories will also be available on our web site.
This is a call to all of you that love Durango and the Strater Hotel to nominate a family or institution. Please don’t assume that someone else has made a nomination. We invite you to share your nomination with us by filling out a room dedication form and returning it to The Strater. You can drop it off at the hotel front desk, send it via Email to rbarker@strater.com; fax it to 970-247-4437 or mail it to nominations, PO Box E, Durango, Co, 81302. Nomination forms and a list of named rooms can be found at www.strater.com/names.
We appreciate your consideration and effort.
