Earl A. Barker Sr. launched what was to become a family legacy by purchasing the Strater in 1926. He guided the company for 28 years before handing the reins to his son, Earl Jr., in 1954. Earl Jr. and his wife Jentra carried the torchproudly, initiating an aggressive revitalization of the hotel, including a nationwide search for American Victorian walnut antiques. They also added contemporary conveniences to update services. Earl Jr. managed the property for 30 years until the mid-1980s when The Strater's current driving force, president and CEO Rod Barker assumed the leadership of the hotel.
Rod and his wife Laurie continue the family's commitment to renovation and state-of-the-art services, proud stewards of a property that grows more charming each year through their thoughtful care.
